Macro Monday

Last week’s picture was the pistil (and part of the stamen) of a flower. That particular flower, which I don’t know the name of – and believe me, I scoured the web looking for it –  just so happens to look like a jellyfish twirling her dress. I just closed in with my macro lens to get a better look at the propeller-like growth, which when surrounded by the petals, looks like the inside of a jet engine. Well, to me anyway. I just love nature’s unlimited supply of shapes and sizes.

This week’s Macro Monday submission is tricky. Can you tell me what it is you’re looking at? Be as specific as possible. The winner gets a free seat in the next Macro Photography class we offer, which will be located in our new store on West Anderson Lane. I hope your weekend was as relaxing as mine was. Until next week…Happy Hunting.

The Nikon D800 Field Review

If you’ve read one of my reviews, you know the deal on how I approach the reviews. If you haven’t, I’ll go ahead and let you know that this is a practical field impression review, there are plenty of dependable resources online like Dpreview.com and the like that are much better at full technical reviews. I take these cameras out into the field, use them for my personal style of shooting, and then relay those experiences here in these reviews. While it is great knowing all of the technical qualities of a camera and it’s capabilities, if I don’t like the way it responds in the field then it’s essentially worthless to me. I think this is how a lot of photographers feel too, so that is why I write these kinds of reviews for your perusal. Enjoy.

First off, the thing most of you are primarily concerned with: the best part about this camera is the images. I know that the question “how could 36 megapixels not be amazing?” is probably already running through your head. That’s not even the point on this one, as the image is just rendered wonderfully with a great dynamic range and wonderful color representation. Zooming in 100% on your favorite image editing program will blow you away when you are processing your files, but the output without any tweaking is just spectacular.

Nikon D600 Photos Leaked

The Nikon D600 FX Digital SLR has been circulating around

Over the course of the night, a user on the Chinese forum

It is very likely this will happen, but until Nikon makes the announcement official, no one will really know besides them. Which ever way the wind blows on this, it is very exciting to think that there will be a decently priced entry full-frame camera on the market soon. Nikon isn’t the only one either, Canon has also been rumored to be making an entry-level full-frame camera and the word is that the 7D MkII will become that camera!
