Dave Lawell

Local self-taught artist, Dave Lawell, has lived and worked in Austin for 21 years. Arriving from San Antonio at age nine, he has spent much time extending his roots deep into the North American art communities, and currently, even farther into South America, including a show in Real de Catorce, Mexico, Christmas ‘98.

David’s career as an artist began at age seventeen by producing and selling large scale photo-realistic drawings based on his own original photography. This concept soon blossomed with multiple shows around the U.S. and a string of beautifully capturing images. Art voyeurs and patrons began inquiring about the use of more color which led him into photo collages, acrylic and oil paintings, murals, and eventually computer graphics. Although he still practices art using conventional and traditional media, 3d graphics and animation have become part of his main focus and career choice. He is currently working on a series of digitally composited and manipulated images from his original scanned photography to produce a non digital or composited appearance. In Dave Lawell’s mindview, the next level of photography.
